Markleeville Fire June 19, 2015
The Washington Fire (caused by a holdover lightning strike reignited with recent strong winds) is burning 8-10 miles south of Markleeville, Calif. The fire is being managed by Type 2 Great Basin Incident Management Team 4. Initial attack efforts began Friday June 19 at around 7 p.m. There are now 1,173 personnel assigned to the fire utilizing 12 helicopters, 10 air tankers (including two DC-10's available in the area), 53 engines, 12 water tenders, 34 hand crews and overhead staff. The fire has burned 17,622 acres and containment is at 29%. The fire is named after the Lady Washington Mine near the origination point.
